Evacuated Tube Collector (ETC) based solar water heaters are more recent compared to Flat Plate Collector (FPC) based solar water heaters and are being adopted as they are more economical. The Evacuated Tube Collector offers better heat capture under cloudy and low sunlight conditions and also has better heat retention in colder climates where the night temperature drops significantly. For moderately hard water conditions, the Evacuate Tube Collector is also less prone to scaling issues and also requires less maintenance compared to the Flat Plate Collector but is less robust and more susceptible to damage compared to it as the tubes might break in case of external impact.
